Which Joomla version are you on?
Support dates come from the Joomla project’s own documentation.
Joomla 3 and Joomla 4
Joomla 3 support ended on 17 August 2023, and its paid extended programme ended on 17 February 2025. Joomla 4 is also listed as no longer supported. If your site is on either, upgrading or moving should be on your to-do list.
Joomla 5 and Joomla 6
Joomla 5 receives security fixes until 12 October 2027. Joomla 6 was released on 14 October 2025 and receives security fixes until 16 October 2029. Going from 4 to 5 and from 5 to 6 are upgrades rather than migrations, but your extensions and template still need to be compatible.

How do I find out which Joomla version I have?
Send us your web address and we’ll check. You can also look under System Information in the Joomla administrator area, which normally shows the version.
Can I upgrade straight from Joomla 3 to the newest version?
Not in one step. Joomla’s own guidance is to go in stages. A Joomla 3 site goes through the latest 3.10 release before it can move to Joomla 4, and later major versions follow in order.
Will my extensions and template still work after an upgrade?
Joomla’s own extensions update with the site, but third-party extensions have to be checked case by case. Some templates, including the old Protostar template, are not compatible with Joomla 4, and some extensions have been discontinued.
Should I move to WordPress instead of upgrading?
It depends. If your site relies on extensions that no longer exist, or the upgrade would cost more than a rebuild, moving can make sense. We will tell you honestly which we would pick. See website migration.
