Weebly Website Help: Keep It Healthy or Move It
Weebly is owned by Square, and Weebly itself has been changing. If your business website is on Weebly, we help you keep it working, back up what you have and, when it makes sense, move to a platform you control.
How we help with Weebly websites
We start by finding out where your site stands and what you want from it.
Fixes and edits
Pages, forms, menus and mobile layout, and the details that were never finished.
Backing up what you have
Downloading your site archive and your content before anything changes.
Search settings
Page titles, descriptions and addresses set up properly.
Domain and email
Finding out where your domain lives and where its email is, so a change does not take either offline.
Square Online or a move
Comparing Square Online with moving to WordPress, Shopify or a hand-built site.
A fresh design
Giving an old Weebly site a modern, mobile-friendly look.
What Weebly has said
These points come from Weebly’s own help pages.
The announcements
In April 2025 Weebly said it had no plans to discontinue the website builder at that time, while encouraging new sites to be built on Square Online. In June 2026 it announced that it is winding down Weebly services in 67 countries by 20 September 2026. Canada is not on the list it published, but check the notices on your own account.
Square Online is not a copy
Weebly says an existing site does not change when you try Square. The Square editor is section-based, uses Stories rather than a full blog, has no comments, and does not work with the Weebly App Center, so moving to it is a rebuild, not a switch.
Not sure what applies to you? We can look at your account with you.
Signs it may be time to look at your Weebly site
- You are not sure what Weebly’s changes mean for you
- The site looks dated or is awkward on phones
- You need features Weebly does not offer
- You want to own and control your own site
- The store or blog has outgrown it
- Nobody has touched it for years
How we move a site off Weebly
- 01
Back up
We download the site archive and gather your text, images and products.
- 02
Plan
We decide which pages to keep, which to merge and where each old address should go.
- 03
Rebuild and test
We build the new site on a private copy and test it on phones and computers.
- 04
Switch and redirect
We point your domain at the new site and set up redirects from the old addresses.
Weebly questions, answered
Is Weebly shutting down?
Weebly has announced a wind-down in 67 countries, and Canada is not on the list it published. It has also said it encourages new sites to be built on Square Online. We recommend checking the notices on your account and downloading a backup either way.
Can I export my Weebly site?
You can download an archive from Settings, General, Archive. It arrives as a ZIP file, it cannot be imported back into Weebly, and it does not include blog and store pages. Features such as the contact form and slideshow may not work outside the Weebly editor.
Can I take my store products with me?
Weebly’s App Center has a third-party Product Export app that outputs text, JSON or CSV files. We check what a given store can export before we promise a move.
Can I keep my domain if I leave?
Yes. You can transfer it away by turning off the registrar lock to get the authorization code, though no transfer is possible within 60 days of registration and a contact change causes a 60-day lock. Turning off the lock also turns off Whois privacy. Weebly also suggests keeping the domain where it is and pointing it at another host.
Will my old addresses keep working after a move?
Weebly page addresses end in .html, so the new site needs redirects for them, set up on the new host. See website migration.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the platform, the size of the site and what needs doing. Ask for a free quote and we’ll explain the options in plain language.
